Greater Madawaska Fire Department Welcomes Addition of Heavy Rescue Van
Griffith: The Greater Madawaska Fire Department and the Township of Greater Madawaska Mayor and
Council, we are delighted to announce the purchase of a new Heavy Rescue Van.
Council approved the purchase of the 2011 Heavy Rescue Van during the September 20, 2021 Council
Meeting, for a cost of $145,000. The walk-in style van is in excellent condition with only just over
10,000km. In 2011, this Van was built at a cost of $450,000 and today would cost more than $600,000.
Included in the purchase was an array of equipment that will be added to the department’s inventory of
pike poles, piercing nozzles, roto chains, and more.
“This very capable vehicle will prove to be a valuable addition to the equipment and resources our
Firefighters have to best respond to emergencies in our community. Council is pleased with this new
addition to our fire service and the value that it offers our residents,” shared Mayor Brian Hunt.
“The Greater Madawaska Fire Department is pleased with this addition to their apparatus and look
forward to putting it to use serving the community,” stated Chief Darryl Wagner.
The Heavy Rescue Van will be housed at the Greater Madawaska Fire Department Griffith Station as the
replacement for the current 2001 Rescue Van. The vehicle will be dispatched to various incidents
including extrication, structure fires, wildland fires, and the van will carry the equipment essential for fire
fighter safety and fire fighter duties. Also being functional as a mobile command center during fire
operations and emergency management, makes this purchase exceedingly valuable.
