MEDIA RELEASE
SENIORS ACTIVE LIVING CENTRE (SALC)
The Township of Greater Madawaska is pleased to announce that we are now part of Ontario’s Seniors Active Living Centre (SALC) program. The Honourable Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility, and Honourable MPP John Yakabuski announced that the Greater Madawaska 55+ Club program has been selected to receive permanent annual funding of up to $55,000 from the provincial government as part of the SALC program.
Our Township is proud to join over 300 senior active living centres across the province. This funding will have a lasting impact on our community, improving the lives of our 55+ residents. SALC programs provide seniors with important educational opportunities, such as financial management and elder abuse prevention. They also offer a variety of recreational, fitness, and wellness activities that promote healthy lifestyles and help seniors stay socially connected. These programs are essential resources for building stronger, more vibrant communities.
Rob Weir, Mayor: “I would like to thank Staff for their dedication and hard work on this project. This funding supports our dedication to providing more opportunities for seniors to stay engaged and enhance their well-being. It will help ensure that many activities are offered at little or no cost, making it easier for seniors to fully participate in these valuable programs.”
The Township of Greater Madawaska extends its heartfelt appreciation to the Province of Ontario, including the Ontario Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility, for supporting the 55+ Club and other Community Groups in our Township.
We wish to recognize and express sincere gratitude to the volunteers whose dedication has made this all possible, improving the lives of our Township's senior population. Please stay tuned as the Township and our Community Groups collaborate to offer funded programming for our 55+ residents!
