Ontario Government has approved funding to establish a new Family Health Team (FHT) for residents of Renfrew and surrounding areas.

The Ancient Rivers Family Health Organization (FHO), comprising 17 family doctors with offices in Renfrew and Calabogie, drafted an Expression of Interest (EOI) for a Family Health Team (FHT). The submission was endorsed by many partners and individuals who make up a network of support across the region, including the Township of Greater Madawaska and other local municipalities.

Renfrew, Greater Madawaska, and neighbouring regions are the sole areas in Renfrew County lacking an interprofessional care team catering to their locality. Therefore, this announcement signifies a move towards bridging this gap.

The FHT will provide primary care services to vulnerable individuals and those without a family doctor. It is expected to serve approximately 6,600 patients and will expand its team to include allied health professionals like nurse practitioners, counsellors, dietitians, and physiotherapists.

This announcement underscores the significance of collaborative efforts in enhancing healthcare services for our community's residents!
